What Doing Yoga (Surya Namaskars) Everyday For a Month Did For Me

Most of you know that I completed a one month teacher training course at The Yoga Institute in Mumbai in May, however, being the sceptic that I am, I wasn’t convinced that a bunch of poses and stretches could have so many benefits. So I challenged myself to one month of daily yoga.
With the exception of one lazy day, every morning, upon waking, I completed a series of Pranayam (breathing exercises), which took me all of 5 minutes. After this I had some water and tea, after which I started with my Asanas (physical aspect of yoga). The Asanas involved a minimum of 15 rounds (30 in total) of Surya Namaskars as well as some other Asanas (focussing on a different body part each day) and finishing up with Shavasana (Corpse Pose). This took about 30-40 minutes.
What I noticed after 30 Days:
Positives:
I became noticeably more flexible. My next goal is the splits!I am much stronger- I could not do one push up before this and now I can do a few.I now wake up with a flat stomach, which I attribute to a combination of built core strength and resulting massage of digestive organs.I have had asthma since I was a child and used to take strong daily medication. I can now get away with taking it once a week. Pranayam has really increased my lung capacity. My skin is generally more taught around my body.I have a nice glow thanks to inversion postures which direct blood to the head.I am generally happier and am getting a lot more work done. This is probably due to the Shavasana, which is meditative and allows me to be a lot more focussed and alert. Yoga requires concentration and to be present to ensure you do not injure yourself.
Negatives:
I went on a jog one day and realised that because I had given up cardio completely, my fitness was affected. So I will probably add cardio to my routine 1/2 times a week.I have a few pimples on my forehead, which I think were caused by constantly resting my head on my dirty mat.
So basically, Yoga is the answer to all your health and fitness woes. I will be sharing other aspects of Yoga and their benefits over the next few months!
Thank you so much for reading!
