"Here’s to the ones who dream
Foolish, as they may seem
Here’s to the hearts that ache
Here’s to the mess we make"
– La La Land
I’m guessing that at this point most of you have had the fortune of watching La La Land and for those of you who have not, I suggest you pencil it into your weekend plans! The movie was engrossing from start to end but most of all it recognises the people who dare to pursue their dreams and more importantly refuse to give up after much rejection.
Off course I related to it completely but what makes me most happy is how well the concept of living your dreams is being accepted in our society. I know people who aren’t really passionate about anything in particular and are content with their lives, which is great (I envy you) but for us born dreamers, we have a responsibility to challenge the status quo.
I also interact with a lot of people who want to pursue their dreams but are afraid to for reasons such as family responsibility and societal pressure, which is also fine but my advice to such people would be to continue what they are doing and to extract a few hours a day or week to do what they love. Not only will they be satisfying their soul, but your creativity or ideas could be what cause the next big change in the world. I’m sure Superwoman didn’t think she would be such an influential figure on YouTube when she started making casual funny videos. I can go on with names of people that have made a difference doing what they love but the point is if you have a burning desire to explore something, don’t make excuses!
I can’t even get off my phone during a shoot ><
